I read your AJ columns every week and look forward to each article. Loved the last one about the Inet moving out of Dad’s basement, too funny! But I disagree that Obama’s speechwriter, Jon Favreau, should get a pass.
Loved you column on Eve Online. Spot on about the appeal for PvP lovers. But you know, there’s alot of carebearing too. Their mechanism for making space for carebears in the game (i.e. instant retaliatory death for unlawful attackers in high-security space) is really ingenious. It allows carebears to thrive and make money but not without making them paranoid–just a bit, to keep it interesting–about getting ganked by suicide pirates. Really brilliant game design there.
Regarding your piece in today’s A-J about Amazon/Kindle, here is a report of an apology from Amazon’s CEO:
“This is an apology for the way we previously handled illegally sold copies of ‘1984′ and other novels on Kindle. Our solution’ to the problem was stupid, thoughtless and painfully out of line with our principles. It is wholly self-inflicted, and we deserve the criticism we’ve received. We will use the scar tissue from this painful mistake to help make better decisions going forward, ones that match our mission.”
It’s good as far as apologies go, but short on explanations of what will they do next.
Much if the issue is about property and contract rights. Sounds to me like some lawyers are at fault.
Here is a comment under one morning article on the issue:
“Geez, do I have to do everything around here? Here:
The actual book appears to be online at the first site mentioned above but how can I know if it’s the real mccoy since I’ve never seen the book in any form.
I’ve not read 1984 but intend to begin it today–assuming I can obtain a true copy.
