Lubbock's answer to a question no one asked

Forums are down

UPDATE 5-14: My editors are deciding what to do about the forum issue. We’ve got a couple options we’re considering but nothing has been decided yet. I looked into reactivating the old forums but the company that made them is out of business and we can’t control the spam on them. I’ll update here as soon as I know something.

We’re experiencing technical difficulties with our host and have had to take the forums temporarily off-line. We apologize for the inconvenience. We should have them restored in the next day or so. Comment functionality on our stories and blogs is still available.

  24. Another vein attempt by the A-J to block comments….

#23 Nice try for a rebuttal, but you can’t hide from the truth. The next best thing to happen will be for the right wing A-J and LOL to become extinct like the dinosaur it is. Wouldn’t be so bad if they even tried to be a little non-biased,but that’ll never happen. Morris Communications got another extension till May 28th. Those extensions have to run out sooner or later. They are stalling while trying to find find investors to bail them out. Not gonna happen. Newspapers are nothing more than a recap of last night’s local and network news. Why pay for classified, when you post on Craig’s list or everythinglubbock.com for free.

Even the great almighty dependence of unverifiable computer readouts allows hacked systems to decide what used to be done by legitimate and verifiable election ballots.

  58. The majority of Lubbock residents have shown their immaturity – using the usual argument of “everybody else has it so we have to have it too.” The identity of Lubbock has been sold out to the highest bidder and not for what is best for Lubbock. It is a shame that their are so many immature people in Lubbock. Soem day maybe Lubbock will grow up.

    Your Worst Nightmare

    May 10, 2009 at 17:29

  59. Welcome to your second childhood. The majority of Lubbock residents have shown how immature they really are. The current “PROGRESS” is regression into immaturity and a second childhood.

    May 10, 2009 at 17:35

  60. Lubbock has had their strip for nearly 50 years folks. It was started in 1960! Times Change, heck I’m an old man and even I understand and can accept that. Calling people immature just because your side of this equation did not prevail this time, now that is what is ridiculous. You had a good run of nearly FIFTY Years folks, look back at it fondly and accept that change is ever constant and move on. Progress or regression is not the issue. If you don’t agree well then go back to church and pray that people will do their best to not make a mockery of the situation. Complaining now is useless as the masses have spoken!

    May 10, 2009 at 19:44

  61. Buy more beer. Tom and I want to spend your tax dollars.

    May 10, 2009 at 20:29

  62. Showing our immaturity?

No. It is normal and legal for adults to be able to purchase alcohol. We just had an election to that end. The people have spoken.

    Maturity means accepting that fact.

    Deal with it.

    May 10, 2009 at 20:30

  63. Buy more WATER if you don’t we the City will raise your rates at the meter 3 times the rate. We can do as we wish with your money.

    May 10, 2009 at 21:56

  64. Just so Boonie and the other losers will have something to feel good about, I’m gonna….nah, I’m not gonna do a thing. Let ’em deal with it. Let’s see him demonstrate his maturity, if he has any, which I doubt.

They’re like Chihuahuas…lots of yapping and that’s it.

    Why Bother?

    May 11, 2009 at 07:34

  65. As a former user, abuser, and a quitter of alll alcohol for 44 months. I have to say that being able to buy it in the city limits will not have that much effect on personal consumption, or the DWIs in the county.

I would urge anyone to remember that when you open a bottle of “just beer”, you are opening a bottle of alcohol. Be safe and smart.

    May 11, 2009 at 09:28

  66. Granted the IMMATURE MASSES have spoken. They are now like every other city they envy. Your assumptions about how I voted prove your immaturity even more. Your second childhood is before you.

    May 11, 2009 at 10:08

  67. I love it when Boonie is right. He is right about alcohol sales and the immaturity of Lubbock voters. The quality of life in Lubbock has just reverted back to childhood.

Bobby, your comment ” It is normal and legal for adults to be able to purchase alcohol. We just had an election to that end. The people have spoken” is totally invalid. You have had the ability to buy alcohol all these years, if you didn’t, then it was your choice – nothing else. Back to the past again.

    Your Worst Nightmare

    May 11, 2009 at 12:49

  68. Bonnie,
Do you recall the age of 2/3 of the voters in this election?
In the early vote less than 10,000 of the 40,000 were younger than 45 years of age. Specifically those 10000 were 25-45.

As per how you voted Bonnie is your business!
Your desire to belittle those who took the time to vote shows who is immature.
Just accept the change and come August/September when they finally begin selling at your local grocery store you can chose to do business with these places or not.

I hope my quality of life does revert back to what is was like
    during my childhood.
    Heck I loved those days!
A judge and the churches told us how we could drink and where we could get those drinks back in 1960. The people chose on Saturday May 9th, 2009. THE PEOPLE, not a Court, and not the Pulpit. THE PEOPLE of Lubbock, so that gives it the legitimacy it needs.
Accept Change or go the way of the dinosaur, your choice!

    May 11, 2009 at 15:32

  69. Boonie and YWN:

You say sour grapes, I say sweet wine. Even sweeter when it’s to go, at United. Coming our way soon, like it or not!

Na na na na, Na na na na, hey hey, Goodbye!!!

Rock on, immature voters! Bring on the casino gambling and the bordellos!

    May 11, 2009 at 15:48

  70. 69

    How is Bobby’s comment invalid?
The election was about shifting sales into town, which the voters passed, making it easier to purchase.

Your comments come across as spiteful and are in any case irrelevant in light of what has happened.

    May 11, 2009 at 16:15

  71. It is so funny that so many of you cannot handle the truth. Spiteful? Only those of you who cannot deal with the truth that has been written. What you call progress is actually regression into playing follow the leader – no pride in Lubbock, no desire for individuality, no concept of self, total immaturity. Go with your follow the leader immature mentality.

There was, is and always has been the availabilty of alcoholic beverages. Brewing your own is legal, selling home brew isn’t. Lazy children do not want to do anything for yourselves. Nothing could be finer than home brewed wine or beer.

    May 11, 2009 at 18:57

  73. #72

Appreciate your comment, thirsty, but your questioning the argument misses the obvious: we’re witnessing a petulant snit from an old toad.

If it makes YWN feel better about him/herself by getting splenetic, snotty, and generally asinine, then big deal.

    Bring on the brew!!!!

    May 11, 2009 at 19:06

  74. Not to throw everything into a left turn, pun intended, but what happened to ole Kenny Kentner’s whiny liberal skewed take on life? Did his last post disagreeing with the AJ powers-that-be cause him to pull the blog, or did they do it for him? It was a blast reading his kumbayah crap. It was good for a laugh at least.

    May 12, 2009 at 00:03

  75. If you check his lubbockleft blog, he’s said that it’s technical difficulties related to the Forums problems we’re dealing with right now.

I, too, wondered if he’d hit a nerve after he’d taken the AJ to task for its torture endorsement in last Friday’s editorial.

    May 12, 2009 at 05:22

  76. # 76 Not to throw a right turn, pun intended, but what about ole man May’s conservative blog. You want to talk about skewed crap! Pot meet Kettle…The A-J deserved to be fried over that editorial.

    Pun Intended

    May 12, 2009 at 07:34

  77. #78

I would prefer to believe that the AJ eds would be above squelching Kenny’s rebuttal, which was spirited but irreproachable.

The AJ chose to endorse an illegal, immoral, and self-defeating policy, apparently to appeal to LBB’s conservative base.

Kenny was far from the only one to take exception to that editorial, which was clear from the comments made to it online. You can’t argue that Kenny’s view was not shared by some sane voices in the readership, and clearly deserved to be presented.

I would like to believe that all this is just coincidence, and that the problem with the blog is just technical.

    May 12, 2009 at 07:52

  78. #79

    Clarify one thing…

I think that the editorial appealed to SOME in the conservative base. Was not meaning to indict the conservatives who also took objection to it.

    May 12, 2009 at 08:34

  80. I don’t read May’s diatribes. I don’t have enough stuffing in my shirt or time to wade through all the boring crap he puts out.

    May 12, 2009 at 09:51

  81. Stuck an extra e up there sorry.

Methinks this is no longer a techinical issue on the forum hosting site, rather a fiscal issue. Somebody up at Morris probably didn’t pay the hosting bills and so technically, the host cut off access.

    May 12, 2009 at 09:54

  82. I appreciate all those comments form the LIBERAL LEFT who have proven not only my point but Boonie’s as well. You reactive, defensive, name-calling diatribes have provided all the evidence needed. Again, THANK YOU FOR PROVING MINE AND BOONIE’S POINT. Not only that but also adding to the equation, the lack of intelligence that you have.

  116. as one of the few with remaining access to the old lubbockonline forum, you might mention it there, Mrs.Opinion. 😉

  117. OK WILL DO, hope it doesnts invite spammers.

    May 15, 2009 at 14:27

  118. They have shut down that forum too. This is what I get when I try to post anything

“This forum appears to be misconfigured. The forum Administrator has set this board to disable all registration options, but has set this forum to require registered users. Please contact the Administrator and ask him or her to correct the problem. Thank you!”

  119. To anyone else that is interested in a new forum, the one below appears to be very good

    May 15, 2009 at 14:33

  120. Well, I’d say it’s safe to say the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal is officially out of the online forum business, and the “Going Out of Business” smoke signals intensify.

    May 15, 2009 at 17:59

  121. Looks like this will be the place to go in the future: http://www.talklubbock.com/index.php

When my yearly subscription expires with the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, I will NOT be renewing it. There have been way too many Lubbock Avalanche-Journal talk forums started and stopped to date, and I’m tired of seeing everyone’s posts go Poof!

  122. I went to Talk Lubbock……..was not impressed. Seems to be full of cranky old people who have nothing better to do than complain about Lubbock. Unprofessional and definitely not worth the time for most people.

  123. 124

I guess DigiCasey thinks we’re a bunch of cranky old veggies ourselves.

    May 18, 2009 at 07:57

  124. If DigiCasey lives long enough, they will become old & cranky like the rest of us :-))

    May 18, 2009 at 08:03

  125. Old, perhaps. Cranky like that collection of old farts? If I were that miserable, I’d slash my wrists and be done with it.

  126. WTF you AJ morons. Either fix it or dump it.

    May 19, 2009 at 09:42

  127. Personally the forums went downhill when the editor and the publisher of the AJ decided to ban me over a year ago when I was excercising my constitutional rights…I guess they didn’t like the truth I was saying about their friends at city hall…hmm…how does that ethics thing work out when the news folks are cozy with the crooked politician folks??? I still get better news at the barber shop.

I’m so happy the days of expensive media production is on the way out…now the AJ will have stiff competition from capable online reporting resources who aren’t joined at the hip with most of this towns problems. So long AJ…you had a decent run but it’s coming to an end…your organization is becoming more and more transparent…as more people turn to the internet vs. print I really don’t see the AJ surviving or turning a profit worth keeping the doors open…if only you had reported the stories straight and not slighted for your pals all those years….the lord REALLY does work in mysterious ways…your good friend redraider74

  128. The Amarillo board that replaced the Globe News board that was discontinued.

A moderated board with mostly conservative national and state politics and local Amarillo and Lubbock discussions and college and high school sports discussions.

We ask that discusssions remain civil and well-behaved and that users keep one user name at time to avoid confusion.

New users welcome, and we are especially looking for more discussion of sports and local Amarillo and Lubbock issue.
